BioFounder/Choreographer/Dancer
Maria Mantia Papathanasiou is a dancer/choreographer born in Athens. She has graduated from the Niki's Kontaxaki Professional Dance School and was a synchronized swimming champion. She has participated in numerous workshops in various contemporary dance techniques, ballet, Contact Improvisation and Aikido. She danced with the Wrong Movement, Yelp and Fora companies, and choreographers Josef Heizer and Athanasia Kanellopoulou, among others. Having taught dance and synchronized swimming to the National Teams of Greece, Germany, Italy and Turkey, she has choreographed for international meets (2007-present), world championships (2009-2013) as well as the preleminaries of the London Olympic Games 2012. In 2011, she founded the Dance Team Ametakinit(R)o, for which she is artistic director/choreographer/dancer, which has presented her choreography in Greece, Berlin, Brussels, Northern Ireland and Montreal, Qc. In the same year, she created her unique artistic system, called Contemporary Synchro Art, one which combines both principles of synchronized swimming and contemporary dance. |
